46-year-old Jason Green will ride the 75mile ‘Sunrise Express’ later this month to raise funds in support of his relative, 12-year-old Harry Price. Football mad Harry was diagnosed with Philadelphia positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in October 2016 and is currently undergoing intensive and gruelling chemotherapy treatment for a condition that is more common in adults than children. Jason, an I.T. Infrastructure Engineer from Longbridge aims to raise £4,000 for blood cancer charity Cure Leukaemia to support the charity’s £1m Centre Appeal in 2017.
Jason said: “The family is so proud of Harry. His response to being diagnosed has been to face the disease with dignity, bravery and selflessness. Cure Leukaemia has been very supportive to Harry and the family and I am keen to raise as much money as possible towards their 2017 appeal.”
Harry is huge Aston Villa fan and the club’s star midfielder Jack Grealish took time out to visit the youngster to give him a boost back in December.
He continued: “He loves Villa and he’s so sad that can’t attend the matches at the moment but it was such a great gesture from Jack to come and brighten up his day.”
Harry, his mum Stephanie and dad Derek attended the launch of Cure Leukaemia’s £1m Centre Appeal at the offices of KPMG in Birmingham in January where he met Warwickshire cricketer Jonathan Trott, West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster, former Blues and Villa manager Alex McLeish and England Under-21 Manager Aidy Boothroyd.
Cure Leukaemia CEO James McLaughlin said: “Harry’s bravery has inspired everyone associated with Cure Leukaemia. The cyclists riding the Three Tour Challenge later in the year are currently undergoing an intense training regime but no matter how tough that may be it is nothing compared to what Harry is going through. We have a huge year of cycling fundraising ahead of us and it’s great that Jason has kicked started the year so successfully through his fundraising, I wish him very best of luck.”
