City of Wolverhampton Council planners have been praised for their support in the refurbishment of a landmark Grade II-listed Wolverhampton building for luxury serviced offices. The former HMRC VAT office at Deansgate on Tettenhall Road has been converted into 28 offices, ranging in size from 1,540 sq ft to 226 sq ft, following a £2.8 million investment by developer and local businessman Surj Dhami.

Two companies – one from outside Wolverhampton - have already signed up as tenants and another firm from outside the city has expressed an interest in the largest office. The complex, which could see between 150 and 200 people employed there, was officially opened yesterday (Wednesday) by Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Barry Findlay.

Dhami, said: “Three years ago we took on a similar project on the Tettenhall Road. “The success of that project encouraged us to take on this bigger scheme and we have brought this stunning building into the 21st century, while retaining all of its original features. The support from the council’s planning department, in particular from Jon Beesley and Hayley Johnston, helped make it a reality and we are delighted with the results.”

The property dating back to the 18th century, now also boasts modern LED lighting, raised floors, passenger lifts, conference room and boardroom, an exclusive ‘tenants and guests only’ business lounge, and parking for up to 82 cars. Councillor John Reynolds, Cabinet Member for City Economy, added: “This is yet another example of the £3.7 billion investment on site or planned in Wolverhampton.

“The fantastic and sensitive transformation of this historic building provides more top grade office space in the city.

“Not only that, it is attracting interest from companies outside of Wolverhampton, bringing more business and jobs to the city’s economy.”
