Derby's FORMAT International Festival of Photography will take place between March 24 and April 23 in 2017. A truly world class biennale event, FORMAT is widely acknowledged as one of the world's leading international contemporary festivals of photography, as well as - in terms of visitors and scale of programme - the largest event of its kind in the UK. FORMAT17 will display work by over 200 international artists and photographers across 30 exhibitions, alongside a photobook market, portfolio reviews and a series of innovative events and performances

The wide range of projects on display at FORMAT17 are connected by the theme 'HABITAT' - exploring landscape, environment, mobility, migration, digital worlds, ideas of home and displacement, conflict and regeneration through the work of international photographers and artists.

Amongst them, People, Places, and Faces: The W. W. Winter's Archive, at Derby Museum and Art Gallery from March 24 to June 11, combines early studio photography from 1854 onwards - with a focus on the collection of W.W. Winter's Studio Derby, one of the oldest running studios in the world - with a precious piece of local history.

The 2015 festival welcomed over 100,000 visitors from all over the world.  This year's event will once again feature more than 30 of Derby's most beautiful buildings and key landmarks including: QUAD, University of Derby, Derby Museum & Art Gallery, Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Sites, Market Place and satellite venues in nearby cities.
