Sandwell residents are being challenged to have a break from the booze and stop drinking alcohol during Dry January. Adopting a healthier lifestyle, saving money and losing weight are just three of the benefits of taking part in the Alcohol Concern and Public Health England-backed campaign. The drive encourages people to give their body a break from drinking for a month and the Healthy Sandwell team is urging residents to bid the booze goodbye in January.

Healthy Sandwell, Sandwell Council’s Public Health team, say signing up to Dry January can have both short and long-term health benefits and they can help support people who want to take part.

Councillor Preet Gill, cabinet member for Public Health and Protection, said: “Taking a month off the booze can have such a positive impact on how we look and feel.  Signing up to Dry January is a brilliant idea if you’ve overindulged over Christmas or just fancy having a booze-free month.  A month off alcohol can have a massive impact on quality of sleep, energy levels and even help with weight loss. Who doesn’t want to start the new year like that?”

Many people who have taken part in Dry January before have reported that a break from the booze acted as a reset button on their drinking habits for months afterwards, not only helping people to drink less per drinking day but also to drink less frequently.
