Walsall College has taken up temporary residency in an empty unit in the Old Square Shopping Centre in Walsall town centre, as part of an annual drive to showcase Creative Industries courses to shoppers and prospective students.
The store, L2, manned by students and staff, has been transformed into an exciting gallery space and open to the public from Friday 12th – Friday 19th June, as talented BTEC Level 2 Art & Design students exhibit their work as part of the college’s upcoming Art & Design Summer Show 2015.
Walsall College Community Development Officer, Jane de Weijer, said: “We are delighted to have opened a pop-up shop to showcase our students and the college in an innovative and exciting way.
“We want people to come in, enjoy our exhibition, meet our students and find out what we have to offer in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.”
Meanwhile final preparations are being made for this year’s spectacular Art & Design Summer Show at Wisemore Campus. The hard work and efforts of students on the BTEC Foundation Art & Design and BTEC Level 3 Art & Design, Fashion and Graphic Design courses will be on show in more than a dozen studios when it opens to the public from Wednesday 17th June.
Alan Tyler, Curriculum Manager for Art & Design at Walsall College, said: “We would love people to come and join us in celebrating the achievements and high standards of work that our students produce. They will soon be moving forward to apply their knowledge and skills on higher level courses and in the creative industries.
“Our programmes have challenged our students to direct their creative energies towards independence, originality, and innovation. Students have specialised in a number of areas including Fine Art, Photography, Textiles, Fashion, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Printmaking and 3D Design.
“It will be an exciting and lively exhibition, showcasing a diverse range of disciplines. It is a fitting culmination to the hard work, energy and commitment from our students and staff.”
The Pop Up Exhibition will be open in the Old Square Shopping Centre from 10am-2pm, Friday 12th – Friday 19th June.
The Art & Design Summer Show 2015 will be open at Walsall College’s Wisemore Campus from 10am – 4pm, Wednesday 17th – Tuesday 23rd June.
