Students studying on the Jewellery Making course run by Wolverhampton’s “Outstanding”-rated Adult Education Service will showcase their talents in an exhibition beginning shortly. During the Jewellery Making course they learnt how to produce a range of finished items using precious and non-precious metals, while also developing their design skills. And their handiwork will be on show in Silver Linings, which goes on display at the Adult Education Service’s Foyer Building from next month.

Councillor Claire Darke, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, said: “The exhibition showcases the talents of our Jewellery Making students and celebrates their achievements while also highlighting the progression they have made during their time with us.

“Hopefully Silver Linings will also inspire visitors who are thinking about unlocking their artistic ability by joining one of the many creative courses offered by the Adult Education Service.”

Also showcasing her talents in Silver Linings will be student turned professional photographer Meliora Nelson, who created the images which will be on display.

She joined the Adult Education Service in 2002 and successfully completed its Access to Higher Education Diploma (Art and Design) course, enabling her to go on to study Photography and Printmaking at the University of Wolverhampton.

She said: “I’d always had a passion for art while growing up, and after doing various jobs I decided to take my art more seriously and enrolled on the Level 3 Art and Design course at Wolverhampton Adult Education Service.

“The course helped me in various ways, in particular helping with my confidence and focusing on which direction I wanted to take my art.

“The Adult Education Service was the perfect starting point – it gave me the direction I needed to develop my confidence and skills in order to progress.”

Silver Linings will be on show at the Foyer Building, St George’s Parade, Wolverhampton, from Tuesday 8 March until Friday 1 April, 2016. The Foyer Building is open from 9am-8pm, Monday to Thursday, and 9am-4pm on Fridays.
