Black Queer artists are invited to apply for eight opportunities to perform at Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre on Saturday 12th March 2022 as part of the Black, Queer & Done feature film, commissioned by Coventry Pride and funded by Arts Council England.

Each artist will receive a £500 commission for their performance which will respond to one or more of the following themes:

My Queer Me | Investigating themes around authenticity. The quietness to the quirkiness of queerness. Exploring the Spectrum. Not all queer is the same.

In-Between-Ness | Moving past white patriarchal gazes. Viewing queerness via a kaleidoscopic lens. Discovering what exists between.

It’s Giving Thanks | A Celebration of Black Queer ancestry. Decolonisation via self-discovery. Acknowledging the Blackness of queerness.

The three themes were generated by queer commentators from the UK, USA and Africa as part of digital focus groups in December; footage from these groups will be shared via the BQD social platforms, as well as forming part of the feature film which will premiere in May 2022.

Deadline for applications for the artists’ commission is Midday on Wednesday 26th January 2022. Commissions will be announced by Midday, Monday 31 January 2022.
