South Africa stamped their authority over a lack-lustre Namibia in Group E. as Themba Zwane scored twice in 16 first-half minutes to earn their first points of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), whilst, in Group F. both games ended in 1-1 draws, to leave much to play for there.
With both teams guaranteed a place in the last 16, if they win their deciding matches, it was Percy Tau who began the rout with an early penalty, before Zwane struck twice to give Bafana Bafana a commanding lead. Substitute Thapelo Maseko then made it an assailable 4-0 after connecting sweetly from a long ball from Teboho Mokoena.
In the earlier fixtures, Silas' clinical second-half strike earned DR Congo a deserved point, after Morocco took an early lead when Achraf Hakimi lost his marker to volley in the opener from Hakim Ziyech's corner. But the Leopards levelled when Silas calmly stroked the ball into the net from Meschack Elia's cutback.
The Atlas Lions now needs just one point to reach the round of 16 when they play Zambia in the final round of group-stage games on Wednesday. DR Congo will be aiming for a win against Taifa Stars to guarantee their place in the round of 16.
It was Patson Daka's powerful header which rescued a late point for 10-man Zambia and denied Tanzania a first ever win at the tournament. Daka equalised from Clatous Chama's corner to boost his side's last-16 hopes following Simon Msuva's early opener.
Zambian defender Rodrick Kabwe received a red card following a second booking - for an aerial challenge on Mbwana Samatta.
