This weekends Chinese New Year celebrations in Birmingham will be one of the largest events of the year.
Based on the lunar and solar calendars, the actual date varies, but always falls between late January and mid-February.
Seeing in the Year of the Goat, the huge event festival, on Sunday, is expected to attract over 30,000 people to the Chinese Quarter, in the Arcadian, as 2014’s Year of the Horse comes to an end.
In Chinese, the name of this year's animal is yang, which can mean either a sheep or goat, so some will be calling it the Year of the Sheep.
Birmingham Chinese Festival Committee Chair, Jeffrey Yap, said: "Each and every year, we warmly welcome all members of the public from Birmingham and the West Midlands to join in the festivities, celebrating one of the oldest festivals in the world.
Our free festival is inclusive and open to all and we hope to welcome more people than ever this year.
The event is one of the largest in the Midlands, attracting approximately 30,000 people throughout the day. We also organise Birminghams’s Mid-Autumn Festival at the Arcadian Centre and this continues to grow each year.
All members of the community are welcome."
