WorldSkills UK, the education and skills charity, is looking for talented people from across the West Midlands to prove they are the UK’s best.
The WorldSkills UK Competitions are run in over 70 different skills across Engineering, Construction, Digital, Health and Hospitality. Putting apprentices’ and students’ practical skills, knowledge and employability attributes to the test in a competitive environment, 90% of those who entered the competitions in 2019 said they had seen improvements in their career prospects after taking part. WorldSkills UK Competitions are designed by industry experts and are free to enter.
Each successful entrant that makes it through the National Qualifiers, due to take place between April and June 2020, will proudly represent the West Midlands in the National Finals at WorldSkills UK LIVE, at the NEC Birmingham. Attracting over 70,000 visitors, WorldSkills UK LIVE is the largest skills, apprenticeships and careers event which takes place from 19 – 21 November.
Ben Blackledge, Deputy Chief Executive, WorldSkills UK said: “We are looking for apprentices and students throughout the West Midlands to demonstrate their skills and show why they are the best in the UK. Our competitions are proven to enhance a young person’s technical and employability skills, giving them the confidence to excel in their chosen career.”
Celebrating the best of UK talent, national and even global recognition could await entrants as WorldSkills UK will invite those apprentices and students who excel in the 2020 Competitions to join its talent development programme for the international WorldSkills Competition in 2023. Known as the ‘skills Olympics’, WorldSkills takes place every two years and sees over 1000 apprentices and students from around the world with the aim of being named the world’s best.
