Cockshut Hill School in Yardley is celebrating the opening of a new £60,000 multi use games area.

The multi-use games area, or MUGA, is designed for football and netball, offering durable, low-maintenance surfaces with excellent drainage for all-weather use. The funding has come through the Summit Learning Trust, which Cockshut Hill School is a part of.

These pitches support football, rugby, and casual games, ensuring consistent play even after heavy rain. The pitch is nearly 1400 square metres and is already in use with learners at Cockshut regularly using the new pitch for football and netball.

The new pitch is designed to increase Cockshut Hill’s sporting offering, with the new surface creating more opportunities for competitive sports including netball and football. The pitch, which was constructed over the summer, will be particularly useful for the school over the winters and in periods of bad weather when a normal grass pitch would become waterlogged.

Jody Clarke, Principal at Cockshut Hill School, commented: “We’re delighted that after a lot of work and investment our new multi-use games area is up and running, with our learners already using it and enjoying themselves.

“At Cockshut, our learners are rightly proud of their sporting prowess, and this new pitch will give us the facilities to continue to compete at the top level”.
