More than 900 people attended a special careers fair at West Bromwich held at Sandwell College’s Central Sixth campus in West Bromwich. Sandwell Connexions held the Seventh Annual New Year, New Start 2016 Apprenticeship, Education, Training and Jobs Fair.  More than 40 exhibitors showcased a diverse range of opportunities at varying levels of entry. There were colleges, Wolverhampton University, apprenticeship and training providers and experts from professions such as law and accountancy.

There were also representatives from a range of employers from across the technology, manufacturing and service sectors, with exhibits set up to motivate and inspire young people to explore the opportunities open to them.

In addition, Connexions personal advisers were on hand to provide impartial careers advice, guidance, support and information.

The event was launched by the Mayor of Sandwell, Councillor Barbara Price, and Matthew Sampson, Sandwell Council’s director of children's services.

Councillor Simon Hackett also attended the event. He said: “It was a pleasure to attend such a useful event and to see so many young people seeking out information which could help them find a suitable educational course, apprenticeship or a job opportunity.

“The range of business and opportunities available to the young people was truly amazing and it was very satisfying to see young people in discussions with so many potential employers at the event.

"It is important to hold events like this so we can give all young people the right advice to get the best start possible as they look towards their future career."

Any young person who could not attend on the day can call Sandwell Connexions on 0121 569 2955 to speak to a personal adviser or drop in at the One Stop Shop at the Council House, Oldbury. Connexions also works in outreach venues throughout the Sandwell area.
