Housing association Platform has marked Children’s Book Week (May 6-12) by organising a competition that encompasses both art and literature for a local primary school.
Children aged seven and eight at Aldermoor Farm Primary School near Platform’s upcoming The Spires development took part in a book cover designing competition about new homes, with the winner and runner-up receiving their drawings framed to take home. The school also received a donation of 90 children’s books, one for every entry, on a range of topics including animals, space and the weather, while the winning design will also be displayed in the show home at the new development.
Jasmine Jandu, sales consultant for the Spires visited the school recently to hand out the books and frames, with Lilian, aged eight, crowned the winner and Aisyah aged seven a close second. Aldermoor Farm lies within walking distance of The Spires, will offer 196 stunning new homes available through Shared Ownership and affordable rent, allowing Coventry residents to step onto the property ladder through an affordable homes scheme.
Emma Hardy, Assistant Headteacher, (Key Stage 2) at Aldermoor Farm, said: “The book cover drawing competition really helped to engage our year three pupils across both drawing and an understanding of books.
“The children were given a really open brief and the opportunity to name their book too, so it was great to see their imaginations running wild. We’re also very grateful for the donation of 90 children’s books, these will go a long way to enriching our younger children’s education and will hopefully help to inspire a love of reading.”
Marketing Manager at Platform, Sabina Cox, said: “We’re really pleased to have provided this donation to the children of Aldermoor Farm Primary School.
“We hope that the pupils love getting involved with these stories and that it helps to inspiring a love of reading or other passions within the books. At Platform, we’re passionate about enhancing the communities we provide homes for, and this extends way beyond simply our new homes developments.
“We look forward to helping out Aldermoor Farm and other local services in the future.” Platform will be releasing the first available homes at The Spires later this year.
