The University of Wolverhampton is hosting a lecture by a critically acclaimed science fiction author.

Adam Roberts is the author of several science fiction novels including The Real-Town Murders, Bete and The Thing Itself.  He has also written several critical works on science fiction and Victorian poetry and is Professor of 19th Century Literature at Royal Holloway and Bedford University.  He is an expert on Jules Verne and has recently finished reading and writing about HG Wells’ 110 books.

20 students studying for Master’s Degrees in English Literature will be attending the lecture along with Dr Sebastian Groes, Professor in English Literature.

The lecture ‘Sci-Fi and the Contemporary Imagination’ will be held on Thursday 19th April at 6.00 pm at the Wolverhampton Art Gallery (Contemporary Room).  Admission is FREE and the lecture is open to staff, students and members of the public.

Dr Aidan Byrne, Course Leader in English at the Faculty of Arts, said: “Securing high profile, internationally successful authors to speak at the University is really helpful for students studying on our English courses.

“It’s a real coup to be welcoming Adam to the Black Country and we’re all looking forward to gaining additional insights into the world of science fiction.”
