Pupils at Erdington Hall Primary School, part of the Summit Learning Trust, have completed a 20 day attendance challenge this term, to recognise the effort everyone is putting in to be in school on time, every day.
The Birmingham pupils were challenged to be in school every day between Monday the 8th of September and Friday the 3rd of October. 155 of pupils completed the challenge and were placed in a prize draw to win a table, with one Year 1 learner being the lucky winner.
The school’s target is for attendance across the board to be over 96% this academic year; they are currently above the target, which is a proxy for the national average. The Department for Education is clear that every day at school counts, stating that the evidence is clear even a few days of missed school can have a significant impact on a child's education and future prospects.
At primary school, children who attend school nearly every day in Year 6 (95-100% attendance) are 30% more likely to reach the expected standard in reading, writing and maths compared to similar pupils who attend 90-95% of the time. At Erdington Hall Primary School the caring and ambitious staff members put children at the centre of everything they do.
They are committed to delivering exceptional education that nurtures each child’s wellbeing, curiosity, and talents, while preparing them to make a positive impact on their communities. Jenni Downes, Principal at Erdington Hall Primary School said: “We are incredibly proud of our learners for completing the 20-day attendance challenge.
“Being in school every day makes a real difference to learning and future opportunities, and it’s wonderful to celebrate the dedication and commitment of our children. Congratulations to all who took part, and especially to our lucky prize draw winner, your hard work truly pays off.”
The school is holding an open event on Wednesday the 12th of November from 9am to 11am.
