Flatrock Motorclub is delighted to announce it will continue to partner with American INDY NXT by Firestone racing talent Michael d’Orlando at the 2024 XPEL GRAND PRIX AT ROAD AMERICA this weekend.
As part of the agreement, d’Orlando’s #3 car will once again feature the special Flatrock livery which made its debut in Detroit last weekend. Flatrock Motorclub is committed to supporting home-grown racing stars of the future and with d’Orlando currently the only driver on the entire 22-car grid of the 2024 INDY NXT by Firestone series that is not committed for a full season, this partnership provides significant backing to the highly-talented INDY NXT by Firestone driver.
Last week saw the launch of the partnership between America’s newest premium racing facility and the young New York racer, who is currently racing with the Andretti Cape INDY NXT team - formed especially for the 2024 season via a technical partnership between the multi-time INDY NXT by Firestone championship team Andretti Global and Cape Motorsports. The Detroit race weekend proved to be one of mixed emotions for d’Orlando who impressed in securing 5th place on the grid in Saturday’s Qualifying session.
During the race itself on Sunday, he quickly raced into fourth position and was heading for a podium finish before an unfortunate spin as he sought to overtake championship leader, Jacob Abel, sent him to the back of the pack. A brave recovery drive meant he was able to climb back into a vital 20-point scoring 10th place finish, capping off a hugely eventful weekend for the Flatrock Motorclub-backed driver.
The young New Yorker now sits seventh in the INDY NXT by Firestone drivers’ championship following the race in Detroit and will be looking to climb back up the rankings with a successful drive this weekend in Wisconsin. Located on 640 acres of parklike grounds near Elkhart Lake and known as America’s ‘National Park of Speed’, the iconic Road America track is one of the fastest road racing courses in the world.
Road America’s track is over 4 miles in length and affectionately called the ‘Center of Road Racing in North America’ by the motorsport community. This affection is mirrored in the yearly attendance figures for the XPEL GRAND PRIX AT ROAD AMERICA which attracts over 100,000 fans annually.
Michael d’Orlando will be racing in the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix at Road America this Sunday June 9th, with the race set to be televised on the Peacock Channel at 1pm EDT. Flatrock is set to become America’s newest premium racing facility, showcasing a 3.50-mile Tilke designed “Club’ circuit for members. Construction on the facility has been ongoing since last year and set to open to members later this summer.
