From family fun to terrifying tours of some of the city’s most haunted places, visitors to Birmingham Museums will be in for a treat (and trick) this half-term. For those families looking for an extra thrilling treat during the holidays there will be ghostly fun for visitors all week at Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum, and at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery (Mon 24th – Fri 28th Oct), with special Halloween events such as, scary storytelling, creepy crafts and spooky experiments taking place.

Monsters at the Museum at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery

Parents can bring their little mummies, witches and vampires along to enjoy a free spooktacular ‘Monsters at the Museum’ day at BMAG on Wed 26th October (10am – 5pm). There will be lots of ghoulish fun throughout the day including ‘orrible object handling and frightening face painting. Then there will be a Halloween party (12 – 3pm) with ghoulish DJs for dead good dancers, family mummification shows, fancy dress prizes and the chance to capture your costume in the portrait booth of fear.

Spooky Science Night at Thinktank

At Thinktank prepare for an evening full of tricks and treats as the museum opens its doors after hours for a Spooky Science Night (Sat 29th Oct, 6 – 9pm, charges apply). With a full evening of spellbinding fun planned, children can get dressed as their favourite creature and take part in eerie experiments, a science of fright show and enter the planetarium to experience the wonder of optical illusions.

Fright Nights at Aston Hall – too scary for children!

For those adults looking to make the most of paranormal happenings at Halloween, they will be able to step inside one of Birmingham’s most haunted venues, Aston Hall, on an interactive terror tour (Fri 28th – Sun 30th Oct, tours from 5pm – 8.30pm).

Ghostly sightings at the Hall make this event not one for the faint of heart – there have been sightings of a grey lady and a green lady thought to be linked to a daughter of Sir Thomas Holte, who built Aston Hall, and is said to have locked her in her room for years when she disagreed over potential suitors.

Aston Hall is also hosting some family friendly experiences as the Hall will be transformed into a haunted mansion (Sat 29th Oct, 11am – 4pm) with the chance to meet some spooky characters.

Birmingham’s only Pumpkin flotilla at Sarehole Mill

Be part of Birmingham’s only pumpkin flotilla at Sarehole Mill and watch your pumpkins float across the Mill Pond at twilight (Friday 28th – Sunday 30th Oct).  

Experience the magical sight of carved and lit floating pumpkins in the dark of the early night, with a complimentary hot chocolate to keep you warm.

 

Creepy cellar tours at Soho House

Soho House will also be opening its cellar doors to showcase the creepy crypt of this beautiful Georgian house (Tues 25th – Fri 29th Oct, tours at 11.30, 12.30 and 2pm)

With a whole host of fun events across half term at BMAG, Thinktank and the Heritage sites, including a witch hunt at Blakesley Hall and ghost walk through the Jewellery Quarter, hosted by the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter visitors will be sure to have a frighteningly fun time with the help of Birmingham Museums.
