Visitors to an exhibition at Wednesbury Museum and Art Gallery to showcase drawings, letters and interviews by Charlie Grigg who drew for the Beano can get the chance to draw some cartoons and caricatures themselves.
Charlie, a local cartoonist who lived at Oldbury, drew for the Dandy, Beano and Topper as well as drawing some of the naughty cartoon postcards.
Now local people can get the chance to attend three special sessions to have a go themselves at drawing cartoons, caricatures and screen printing at the museum at Holyhead Road.
They can book onto a Caricature Drawing Workshop which runs on June 23 between 2pm – 4pm and work with Arty Mikey an internationally published, freelance Illustrator who has worked on a range of books, magazines and comics books.
Councillor Steve Trow, cabinet member for core council services and culture, said: "These events offers local arts enthusiasts a rare chance to gain an insight into the wonderful world of cartoons and caricatures as well as the opportunity to get involved themselves.
"Charlie Grigg was a top cartoonist at the height of the successes of these comics and people will be able to see the high quality work he produced over many years."
Jane Hanney, museums services manager said: “Arty will be giving visitors a quick lesson in caricaturing for adults and children over the age of 12 years.
“People will start with a simple head drawing and then learn what to look for when exaggerating the image to create a caricature’ "
Then on June 30 visitors can book onto a Comic Book Drawing session between 2pm and 4pm with Laura Howell, a comic artist and writer.
“This is an introduction to comics and cartooning, starting with simple drawings and looking at character design, speech and thought bubbles, and drawing an actual comic page, said Jane.
“Laura will share her experience as a full time comic book artists, and share her stories and examples of her work with D C Thomson’s the Beano and Dandy.”
The Screen Printing Workshop takes place on July 7, 2pm – 4pm and people can create beautiful and charming designs and folk art with Karoline Rerrie, a Birmingham based illustrator.
Jane added: "This screen printing introduction workshop, will give the attendee a chance to “Have a go” and hopefully be inspired to create some wonderful screen prints and patterns.
"They will be shown a mixture of techniques and skills, to get them started in the craft in sessions for people 16 and over only,” she said. “This is a great opportunity for people to get a taster of trying something new and having a go at seeing what they can create.”
The workshops will include all materials needed and are designed for older children and adults.
