Running enthusiasts who cannot wait for the next London Marathon to take place in April next year should consider joining Tenerife's Santa Cruz Marathon this November. The third edition of the ever-increasingly popular event will see thousands of amateur and professional athletes running through the streets and landmarks of the island's capital city on Sunday 6th November. Online registration is now open.

Runners of all abilities are welcome to register as the Santa Cruz Marathon will be featuring three different races: marathon (42 km), half marathon (21 km) and 8K (8 km). Prices to take part in the race vary from €15 to €42 per person – early bird discounts are currently available.

Considered as one of Spain's best marathons by comparison site Trivago, the Santa Cruz Marathon 2016 will pass by some of the most important tourist attractions in the island's capital, including the striking Tenerife Auditorium Adán Martín – designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava; the Tenerife Arts Space (TEA); the Museum of Nature and Mankind; and the popular market Nuestra Señora de África, amongst other spots.

Over 3,000 athletes from 40 different countries, including the UK, took part in the second event held in 2015, in which the fastest runner, Ángel David Martín, completed the 42 km race in just 3 hours and 32 seconds (03:00:32).

In addition to the Santa Cruz Marathon, Tenerife's capital city has played host to other important sport events throughout 2016, including the Santa Cruz Extreme (trail running) and Ocean Lava TriSantaCruz (triathlon), strengthening not only the city's but the island's position as a training ground for both amateur and professional athletes.
