Students at Holyhead School are celebrating after receiving their Level 3 grades in A Levels and Applied General qualifications.
The academy, which is located on Holyhead Road in Handsworth part of Central Region Schools Trust, is pleased to announce a year of excellent results achieved by its students, following two years of dedication to their studies. Overall, over 98% of Holyhead students achieved three A* to E / Distinction* to Pass grades and 75% of students achieved Distinction* - Distinction grades in Level 3 vocational / Applied General qualifications (equivalent to A* - A as A Level grades).
In addition, subjects that saw particularly impressive results included BTEC Applied Law where 95% of students achieved Distinction* or Distinction grades, A Level Psychology, Sociology, English Language and Literature, BTEC Applied Business and Level 3 OCR Cambridge Technicals in IT. Many students are now looking forward to progressing onto their chosen universities, exciting apprenticeships and employment at leading organisations.
While all students have done incredibly well, there are some standout individual achievements. Holyhead School is exceptionally proud to share the news of Dhanish Lal achieving the unbeatable results of four A* grades, and also to be able to confirm that Sameer Sohail has achieved the grades he needed to secure his place at Oxford University where he will be reading Chemistry.
Some top individual performances include:
- Dhanish Lal successfully achieved 4 A* grades in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry, and has accepted his place to study Theoretical Physics at The University of Birmingham.
- Sameer Sohail successfully achieved 2 A* grades in Biology and Chemistry and 2 A grades in Maths and Chemistry and has secured his place to study Chemistry at Oxford University.
- Preet Ghai successfully achieved 2 Distinction* grades in BTEC Extended Certificate in Business and Applied Law and a Distinction* grade in the Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma in ICT. He will be studying Law at Aston University.
- Karan Flora (pic) successfully achieved 2 A grades in Mathematics and Physics and a B grade in Chemistry.
- Tahmina Tasnim achieved 2 A grades in Biology and Mathematics and a B grade in Chemistry. She is taking a gap year to gain work experience in healthcare and intends to apply to study Medicine at The University of Birmingham.
- Brendan Dwyer successfully achieved a Distinction* grade in BTEC Extended Certificate in Applied Law, an A grade in English Language and Literature and a B grade in Sociology. He will be studying Sociology and Criminology at the University of Birmingham.
Collecting her A Level results, Tahmina Tasnim, said: “I’m so ecstatic to have achieved the grades I’ve worked so hard for these past two years. I’m on a journey to get as much work experience as possible and get into the University of Birmingham and hopefully study medicine”
After collecting his A Level results, Sameer Sohail, said: “I never thought that I would be able to get into the University of Oxford. I am so pleased to have received these results. I hope to have a bright future ahead of me”.
Collecting his A Level results, Karan Flora, said: “After all these years of hard work the big day has finally arrived. Opening my results released all those feelings of pressure. Now I know I am going to study at a top university, I am excited to see what my future holds”.
