Birmingham Hippodrome’s B-SIDE Hip-Hop Festival returns in June, showcasing the very best in UK and international artists.

The annual festival, in partnership with Bullring & Grand Central and presented as part of the Birmingham 2022 Festival, will open on Saturday 11 June with a series of online workshops and events ahead of the live competitions the following weekend.

 

On Saturday 18 June, dancers will compete in Breakin’, Waacking, and all styles Hip-Hop on the Hippodrome main stage, followed by the grand finals at Bullring & Grand Central on Sunday 19 June.

Alongside the dance battles and competitions, festival highlights will also include live graffiti and street artists in Southside and at the Bullring, outdoor performances, exhibitions and much more to be announced.

Graham Callister, Director of Festivals at Birmingham Hippodrome said: “After taking B-SIDE Hip-Hop Festival to Coventry last year as part of their City of Culture Celebrations, we are really excited to bring our annual festival back to the heart of Birmingham as part of the Commonwealth Games cultural programme. Many of our Breakin’ competitors will be training to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics, so it’s a very special opportunity to watch some of the most talented international dancers go head-to-head in a series of high energy dance battles.”
