Scores of family-friendly events to celebrate the Black Country Festival are being held at Sandwell Libraries throughout July. Staff in borough libraries are organising activities from songs and storytelling to tasting traditional Black Country food – and are even hosting a variety show to mark the festival.
Celebrations kick off tomorrow (Friday July 3) at Glebefields Library, Tipton, with local poet Billy Spake Mon who will be sharing stories and singing songs over a cup of coffee. The event is free and is from 11am-1pm.
An open mic night is planned for Friday July 10 at Great Bridge Library for anyone who wants to showcase their talents. The Black Country Blues Open Mic Night is from 7-9pm. To register or book tickets call 0121 557 3277.
A local history film is being shown at Tipton Library on Monday July 13, called ‘One day I’ll find you’. This is to pay tribute to the ghost writer who has been leaving beer mats around the Black Country for the last 40 years.
The show starts and ends between 2pm-4pm and is free.
On Tuesday July 14 at Blackheath Library, staff are offering traditional Black Country food and information on how to find out about your roots and what your relatives would have done at this time through history.
Admission is free and the times are between 1.30pm-4pm.
At Tipton Library on Thursday July 18 a Black Country friend’s fun day is being held between 10.30am-1pm. Some of the fun going on includes films being shown as well as unseen archives about the Black Country.
