Jamaica Diaspora UK deliver much-needed relief supplies to several communities in St. Elizabeth, as recovery efforts continue in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa during the late months and weeks of 2025.
With their assistance being part of one of the very first relief flights to arrive in the country from UK-based Diaspora groups, one particular leading representative for the Global Jamaican Diaspora Council for Southern United Kingdom, Nathaniel Peat, said that the initiative reflects the diaspora’s ongoing commitment in the parish as it continues its recovery from the storm. For him, he is continuing his relentless commitment to bringing his island nation back its pre-Melissa-status, and beyond that still.
For his part, social entrepreneur and international motivational speaker, Peat (pic) highlighted his steadfast commitment to the cause, when he simply said: “When people say they need things, they need it NOW!
“That’s why we organized a flight as soon as we could. In addition, it was the quickest that the stuff taken by us was the quickest to be cleared by the necessary authorities.
“Ther’s so many things that people need there, right now – like cots and cotton, and even bags and rucksacks. And, you know what, the people there are immensely grateful for everything they are getting right now.”
To this point, several hubs have been set up, individuals are doing their own things and things like fundraising concerts have taken place – with more to come. Peat continues: “The mobilization across the Diaspora is really serious.
“There’s so many people getting things done in places like at ground-zero, Savanna-la-Mar and Dunn’s River. And, with so much stuff being held up at ports, we were thinking ‘How can we get things to the right place… quickly?’ that’s why we said; ‘a flight!
