Tottenham residents can enjoy a revamped library, with new books and state of the art IT,  as the Marcus Garvey Centre – Library  and Customer Services has opened its doors after a £3million refurbishment. The new-look library boasts a more spacious layout, modern furniture, more computers and 22,000 new books. While the facilities at the library are being tested, the refurbished library will be partially opened. The library will be fully open from next week.Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Cllr Bernice Vanier said:

“At a time when many councils around the country are closing their libraries, I am incredibly proud that Haringey has kept our nine libraries open despite a 40 per cent cut in government funding. Our £3million refurbishment of Marcus Garvey will give residents a brand new library space, new books and the latest computers to learn online skills.

“The re-opening of Marcus Garvey Library shows Tottenham is on the up with cutting edge arts and culture, world class sports and leisure, new jobs and new homes, as well as a strong community and a very proud history.”

Customer service facilities have been introduced on the second floor with an enquiry desk and payment machines for services such as parking permits. There is also a brand new study area and a dedicated Afro Caribbean and Marcus Garvey section, complete with a host of books on the Jamaican political leader.
