A Haringey Primary School whose philosophy is to “never give up on any child” has earned an “outstanding” rating from education watchdogs Ofsted.

The Willow Primary, Adams Road, Tottenham, has jumped from “good” to “outstanding” thanks to its exceptional teaching, impeccable pupil behaviour and exciting curriculum.

Ofsted inspectors who visited the school last month found a raft of things to be proud of, from ambitious staff to high quality teaching to great pupil progress and top rate provision for pupils with special educational needs.

They were also impressed with how vulnerable children thrive at the Willow; how pupils share their experiences with one another; how the governing body supports and challenges the school; how broad, balanced and exciting the curriculum is, and how popular extra-curricular activities are.

Overall, the Willow was found to be outstanding in leadership and management; quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development, behaviour and welfare, and outcomes for pupils. Early years provision was rated “good”.

Willow headteacher, Dawn Ferdinand, said:

"We are thrilled to be rated outstanding by Ofsted, and delighted that the inspectors understood the school’s philosophy and the positive difference it makes to the lives of our children.”

“Teachers, staff, governors and pupils all work together to make the Willow a wonderful place to come to school and a great place to work. Thanks to all of my staff for their continued hard work, and to our school community who we’re so proud to support.”

Marilyn Francis, Chair of Governors, said:

“In a time where good news is so hard to find, we stand, together, with an achievement that was always within our reach. Governors extend our wholehearted thanks to Dawn Ferdinand, Headteacher, and all her team who have been firm with their beliefs and journeyed the school to this awesome result.

This is a very proud moment for all of us; we are full of excitement about the future and what this means for us, the children and the local community! We are not finished; the journey continues with more adventures and greater outcomes for our lovely children!”

Cllr Elin Weston, Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said:

“Congratulations to everyone at the Willow for this absolutely glowing Ofsted report. We’re committed to ensuring that all schools in Haringey are rated as outstanding or good by Ofsted, and the Willow is a great example of how collaborative working between the entire school community can produce fantastic results.”
