Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ contribution of £1,500 has enabled an Oxfordshire academy for children with additional needs to source ‘coding robots’ for advanced education.

Northern House Academy received the donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund scheme and sourced the robots to play a crucial role in nurturing its students' problem-solving abilities, directional language skills, and programming acumen, spanning from Year 1 to Year 6. Ricky Stevens, Headteacher at Northern House Academy, said: “We would like to thank Barratt and David Wilson Homes for the very generous donation.

“Granting our students access to these coding robots is an exciting and enjoyable approach to teaching that promises to make a significant positive impact. While we do not currently have an active PTA, we face the challenge of raising funds for additional teaching resources.

“Our students often thrive when presented with innovative teaching methods, as these help to engage and inspire them effectively. These coding robots come in three different variations, each offering a unique level of complexity.

“They will provide invaluable support to our students during their educational journey at Northern House Academy.” Northern House Academy is a dedicated primary school in Oxford, catering to the needs of children with social, emotional, and mental health requirements.

The developer’s donation was made as part of its Community Fund scheme via The Barratt Foundation, which is run by its parent company, Barratt Developments, and is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates. Campbell Gregg, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to support Northern House Academy through our recent donation as we understand the importance of investing in education and empowering the next generation.

“The school’s commitment to providing quality education aligns seamlessly with our values of community enrichment and fostering growth. We believe that by contributing to educational initiatives, we can help create a brighter future for students and the wider community.”
