Visitors to this weekend's Goodwood Revival will be able to marvel at the 1964 Shelby Daytona Coupe, which is making an epic journey from its home at The Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia, all the way to the UK. The prestigious festival takes place from 11-13 September 2015 and this year will not only celebrate its 50th Anniversary, but will also be the first opportunity for over 50 years for fans of the 1964 Shelby Daytona Coupe to see the car in Europe. This annual festival is a celebration of historic motor racing and is set to attract over 150,000 spectators. It features priceless racing cars displayed in historically accurate themed dioramas, with the 50th anniversary of the Daytona Coupe as this year's theme.
The 2015 Goodwood Revival is the first trip to Europe for the Simeone Museum's Daytona Coupe since its final race in the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans. For the first time in many years, it will also be reunited with all five other Daytona Coupes.
The Shelby Daytona Coupe is an American racing sports car built in 1964-65 by Shelby American Inc. for international competition. In 1965, it became the first American-built car to win the World Championship by defeating the perennial favourite Ferrari team. The Simeone Museum's car is known by its chassis number, CSX2287, as well as "the prototype" since it was the first of only six cars built. Philadelphia's Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum is one of the world's greatest collections of racing sports cars.
The car was briefly used on the streets of Hollywood in the late 1960s by music impresario Phil Spector, and then it disappeared for over 30 years. In 2001 the car was rediscovered and joined the collection of Dr. Frederick A. Simeone, and in 2008 it became a centerpiece of Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia.
The Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum is home to one of the world's greatest collections of racing sports cars showcasing over 65 historically significant cars which have been assembled by Dr Frederick Simeone over 50 years. The museum is the only one of its kind in North America, and takes car enthusiasts on a historical journey from 1909 – mid-1970's as they learn about some of the world's rarest and most famous car brands through the museum's theme of 'The Spirit of Competition', including Ferrari, Bentley, Porsche, Aston Martin and Corvette.
