RoguePlay, Birmingham’s Award-Winning Aerial & Physical Theatre Company, have been chosen to host the very first Midlands based Nikon Photography Day which will take place on Tuesday 18 October at their base at West Midlands Circus & Creation Centre in the city’s creative quarter.

RoguePlay is one of the UK’s leading physical theatre companies that combine aerial and ground-based circus, dance and spoken word touring nationally and internationally.  The company is headed up by Artistic Director Kim Wildborne a highly respected and experienced Circus and Physical Theatre Director and performer whose work consistently investigates the combination of aerial movement.

The Art of Acrobatic Portraits will give participants the opportunity to photograph RoguePlay’s professional artists as they perform highly skilled movements on ropes and silks.   This 'athletic performance art' gives attendees a chance to capture some unique images, using speedlights to freeze the action or a slow shutter speed for images with dynamic motion blur. There are a huge variety of different images to shoot on this workshop which platforms movement with a difference.

Kim is Co-Founder of the West Midlands Circus & Creation Centre, an industry-leading Circus training Centre & Creation Space.  Kim recently performed at the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games watched by a global audience of billions and produced this year’s annual TILT Festival, the largest aerial and physical theatre festival of its kind outside London.  Kim is currently performing her solo show Mother Earth which had a successful run at the recent Edinburgh Fringe.

Kim said “We are so very excited to welcome the team at Nikon into our Centre in Digbeth, the heart of the city’s creative quarter which marks Nikon’s first Photography Day in the Midlands.   We very much look forward to performing for participants and helping them to expand their expertise in photographing movement.”

Nikon School will be bringing this unique opportunity to photograph some talented and fearless acrobats in this brand-new course.

Nikon School Trainer - Ricci Chera  added “Nikon School are delighted to work with Rogueplay Theatre to offer our delegates this unique learning opportunity to photograph the talented acrobatic artists in action.”

The Art of Acrobatic Portraits is a 'hands-on' practical course, with the emphasis on providing participants with as much photography time as possible. A Nikon School expert will talk  through the best camera settings and focusing modes to capture a range of different images throughout the day. They will also show  how to setup Nikon speedlights to take complete control of lighting and then shoot creatively lit images. There will be plenty of opportunities to repeat and try different images to ensure participants have the best collection of images possible to enhance their portfolio.
