A University of Wolverhampton student has choreographed a winning future having scooped an award recently at a high-profile business event.

Kennedy Glews, 27 from Kingswinford, won an Outstanding Business of the Year award at this year’s Midland Business and Community Charity Awards for her business – the Kennedy School of Dance.

The awards are aimed at unsung heroes within the business and community worlds that go above and beyond the normal expectations that are required in the modern world.

Kennedy studied for a degree in Fashion & Textiles at the University before moving on to study for a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and progressing on to a Master’s degree in Design and Applied Arts (Fashion & Textiles).

She said:  “I was so pleased to have been nominated for this award by my peers. I’ve owned the dance school for four years now and we have 150 students of all ages, teaching tap, acro and modern dance.  I work with an amazing team and they all work very hard - I owe this award to them.

“My experience at University has shaped my experience and attitude towards running a business. On both courses, the excellent staff shaped students, encouraging us to be self-motivated, determined and to strive for excellence at all times.  The University works closely with students to ensure that they get the right guidance and my experience has definitely moulded my approach to running a successful business.”

Kennedy will start to teach part-time in the new year at the University of Wolverhampton and will continue to train and develop dancers.

Anyone wanting to study Fashion & Textiles should visit the next Open Day on Saturday 18th November 2017.
