Walsall College has partnered up with The University of Warwick to offer its Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, following the University’s outstanding Ofsted grading for leadership and management. The Level 5 course can be studied part time over two years and provides a benchmark of professional accreditation for people intending to carry out teaching in the Further Education and Skills Sector. It has been specifically designed for FE teachers already working in the sector and may be beneficial for those teaching in upper secondary.

Initial Teacher Training at The University of Warwick is situated in the Centre for Lifelong Learning, and provides high quality teacher education (and professional development opportunities) for those working in the Further Education and Skills Sector.  In their most recent Ofsted inspection, they achieved ‘outstanding’ for leadership and management and ‘good’ for overall effectiveness, trainee outcomes and quality of training.

Boasting an Ofsted outstanding rating itself, a HE success rate of 97% and a commendation from the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for Higher Education, Walsall College offers a range of HNC, HND and degree courses.

Curriculum Manager for Teaching and Learning at Walsall College, Jacquie Hodges, said: “We are delighted to be collaborating with Warwick University and aligning our shared vision of delivering an outstanding pathway to a certified qualification for education professionals.

“Walsall College is a credible option for students who want access to high quality teaching closer to home, and our partnership with a leading university for professional education cements this.”

Principal and Chief Executive at Walsall College, Jatinder Sharma OBE, added: “Our qualifications are all about preparing people for the real world. We know what employers want from our graduates and we use our close links with industry to make sure that’s precisely what we give them. With the cost of university still on the rise, studying locally has never looked so attractive and we expect our small classes and personalised tuition to really appeal to students of all ages.”
