Work is well underway on a £2m state-of-the-art gym development on Newtown Middleway, off the Aston Expressway close to the Matalan / Dartmouth Circle roundabout. JD Gyms, part of JD Sports Fashion group, is transforming the 26,000sq ft. Alcora Building into a three floor fitness facility, due to open this March. Originally destined to be an office complex, JD Gyms obtained planning permission to give the building a new lease of life as a gym last Autumn.

Featuring over 200 pieces of the industry’s finest cardio, strength and functional fitness equipment, JD Gyms Birmingham will also offer male and female saunas, a ladies only gym, and the area’s largest free weights zone.  A large studio and spin studio will play host to over 300 classes a month, all of which are at no extra cost.

The arrival of the fitness centre will give the building a new lease of life, and will create over 15 jobs. The gym will be open from 6am – 10pm weekdays and 8am-8pm on Saturday and Sundays. A free onsite car park will be well liked by commuters who pass the venue on their way in and out of the city.

Having been named as Budget Gym of the Year for two years running at a prestigious industry awards ceremony, the JD Gyms chain is proving to be adding style and quality to the budget gym market.

JD Gyms Birmingham’s Manager, Dhiren Varand, said: “We’re incredibly excited to be bringing our low cost gym with a difference to Birmingham. We will be offering exceptional fitness facilities, an unrivalled class timetable, luxury surroundings and saunas in a convenient location on a highly affordable basis. Our no contract ethos combined with free parking will be a real plus for commuters and local residents alike.”

Pam Young, Director of Alcora Warren Investments Limited, said:  “We are excited to have reached the agreement to give this building an energetic new use. We look forward to seeing the transformation continue to take place and are pleased that our building will now assist the health and wellness of the local community.”
