Pupils in Wolverhampton schools are set to enjoy food with an international flavour this week. Wolverhampton City Council's Catering Team is preparing to serve up a special menu in primary schools for its annual International Day celebrations on Friday.

Pupils will tuck into tasty Tex Mex chicken, cooked in barbecue sauce and served with a tortilla wrap, sweetcorn salad and jacket potato or wedges. Also on offer is a French cassoulet – a bean and mixed vegetable casserole served with garlic bread and salad.

For dessert, young people can choose between Brazilian Cuca De Banana – banana muffin – or an Italian chocolate crunch ice cream.

Councillor Claire Darke, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet member for Education, said: "The International themed days are always very popular in our schools, giving pupils the chance to try out cuisine which they may not have come across before, and also learning a little bit about other cultures."

Like all menus offered in Wolverhampton's schools, the International Day meals are nutritionally balanced.

Tthe Catering Team will be serving up an American-themed menu on Friday 3 July to celebrate American Independence Day on 4 July.
