Ever fancied bagging a graduate job? Considered signing up as an apprentice but not sure if it’s right for you? Or perhaps you could just use a hand getting ready for job hunting. Haringey’s new Routes to Work scheme aims to help Tottenham residents get on the right path to finding the best career. Making the most of Tottenham’s tremendous transport links – with central London just 15 minutes away – and helping people to tap into the career development opportunities Tottenham has to offer, Routes to Work will support more residents into the right job.

In addition to highlighting Tottenham’s great connections, Routes to Work advisors will offer practical hands-on advice and support with CV writing, job searching, applications and interviews.

Routes to Work trailblazers Chinelle Branford, Teresa Rosetti and Charyl Mensah have shared their career experiences in a new video to inspire more local residents to make the most of the support on offer.

Chinelle landed a paid apprenticeship as an advertising executive with Google. She said: “The best career advice I’ve ever received is to believe in whatever it is you want to do and if you’re given an opportunity, take it.”

Teresa worked on Transport for London’s graduate scheme and has been involved with projects that are helping to shape Tottenham’s transformation. She said: “Tailor your application forms to the companies you want to work for. You really need to find something that makes you stand out.”

Mother-of-three Charyl has a quick commute from her home near Tottenham Hale to Stratford for work. She said: “I would definitely recommend [getting careers support] to others. It’s the reason why I found my job, because they helped me rebuild my CV.”

Cllr Joe Goldberg, Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Social Inclusion, said: “We want Haringey’s residents to be first in line for employment opportunities, not just within the borough but across London. “That’s why Routes to Work is about highlighting how easy it is for Tottenham’s residents to reach the best that the capital has to offer, while ensuring they have the support they need to win the jobs they want.”
