Hospitality and Catering students received a free training session on the art of silver service, courtesy of Five Rivers a La Carte restaurant in Walsall. Over 30 Level 1 students visited the fine-dining north Indian restaurant where they received a masterclass and learnt the correct techniques, methods and etiquette to providing excellent silver service. This included how to serve food at the table from platters using a spoon and fork, clear plates and serve wine and water in the correct glass.

The training was delivered by Events Executive at Fiver Rivers, Arun Kalair, who has over 15 years’ experience in the silver service industry.

Curriculum Manager for Hospitality at Walsall College, David Higgins, commented: “The service world is continually evolving and new Michelin star restaurants are opening up all the time, therefore the need for service training and in particular silver service is at the highest it has ever been.

“By having the knowledge and skills in silver service, students are able to demonstrate to potential employers that they have the understanding and the skills for a wide range of roles in the industry.”

In addition, Hardeep Kara Restaurant Manager at Five Rivers visited the college and gave Level 3 students an insight in to the skills they look for when hiring and how they can make themselves more employable.
