"I am writing to invite your readers to sign up to the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) toughest fundraising challenge yet, a 100km trek. The BHF has four 100km treks available which will push participants to the limit. Each challenge takes, on average, 26 hours to complete and will see participants cover 62.1 miles, walking nonstop through the night to raise funds for the BHF’s life saving research.

Almost a third of participants fail to complete the total distance so the decision to sign up should not be taken lightly. Preparation is key, walking nonstop for over 26 hours will not only put an incredible strain on your body, but walking through the night and through all types of weather will also push you to the limits mentally, so you need to be prepared.

The BHF recommends a minimum of three months training for these events, but the commitment and training is worth it when you cross the finish line knowing what you have achieved physically, all while supporting a worthy cause.

In 2003 I suffered a heart attack and a cardiac arrest, after 13 attempts, BHF Professor of Cardiac Surgery Gianni Angelini managed to restart my heart and gave me a double bypass. Without the BHF I would not be here.

I would encourage anyone who feels they are up to the challenge to sign up to one of the BHF’s 100km treks, it is a fantastic personal challenge and a great way to raise essential funds for the BHF’s life saving research which makes a difference to millions of people in the UK living with heart disease.

If you think you could complete one of the BHF’s 100km treks sign up today: bhf.org.uk/treks"

Yours Sincerely,

Sir Ranulph Fiennes

BHF Ambassador
