Nigeria ended 2016 in celebratory mood after coming out on top in the Africa Women's Cup of Nations final against host nation Cameroon. Playing in front of over 40,000 fans at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaound, the Super Falcons scored late to deny Cameroon a home triumph and extend its dominance of the Women's African Cup of Nations with a 1-0 win in what proved to be a tense final.

The Guingamp star's goal in the second half was enough to separate the two teams and give Florence Omagbemi’s women an eighth African crown.

It was the second time Nigeria had defeated a host nation in the final and it came as a bitter pill to swallow for the hostesses who created the better chances during the hard-hitting encounter. It’s also the fourth time that Cameroon has finished the tournament as runners-up – and the fourth time that it’s been against Nigeria.
