Business students at Walsall College had an insight into the inner workings of global banking, with an industry presentation delivered by the Swedish bank, Handelsbanken. The branch manager at Handelsbanken’s recently opened Walsall office, Stephen Breen, along with his colleague Joanna Warburton, from the Regional Personnel department, visited the college’s business hub on Thursday 21st January and gave an inspiring talk to a class of students.

Areas covered included the history of the European bank, highlighting the different ways in which it operates, with decisions made locally and success being defined by satisfied customers.

Joanna also discussed the type of careers open to graduates, as well as the range of internship opportunities and apprenticeship schemes they are looking into offering in the future.

Business lecturer at Walsall College, Cordelle Taylor, said: “Students found the session extremely useful as it has increased their knowledge of the careers paths available in banking and given them a detailed insight into how the sector operates in general.”

Student, Alexander Lee Watkins, 18, said: “I’m fascinated by the world of banking, so I found the presentation really informative. I now have a clearer idea of what working in banking would be like.”
