Haringey prepares to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week

Haringey will mark Baby Loss Awareness Week (BLAW, 9-15 October 2026) from this Friday onwards, with bereaved and grieving parents and families being encouraged to attend a woodland walk on Sunday 11 October 2026.

Travelling along the borough’s local nature reserve, Parkland Walk, the Baby Loss Walk will culminate at a place of comfort and remembrance for anyone affected by pregnancy or baby loss in the Baby Loss Tree. The event represents an opportunity for attendees to reflect, remember, stand with each other and be together while listening to music and short readings. If you or someone you know is grieving the loss of a cherished loved one, why not meet at the Holmesdale Road entrance to Parkland Walk (N6 5TJ) at 3:30pm on Sunday afternoon? The walk will begin at 3:45pm and all are welcome to attend.

We know baby loss or pregnancy loss can be incredibly isolating for those who experience it. It’s fundamentally important to remember though that you’re not alone. A network of supportive organisations and people with lived experience of pregnancy and baby loss are available to offer support, understanding and guidance through grief.

Talking through your emotions can also encourage others to open up about their own experiences and help to destigmatise these sensitive issues. The Baby Loss Walk is one of a number of activities and events in our borough once again being organised by Hilary Grierson to honour the memory of her son, Hamish. Hilary said: “This is – as always – part of the legacy of our baby boy Hamish, who we miss each and every day.

“Hamish didn’t get to write his own story, so we’re writing it for him!” On Friday (9 October 2026), one of the most prominent landmarks in our borough – the iconic TV station mast at Alexandra Palace – will be lit in the two symbolic colours of baby loss awareness (pink and blue) as a mark of remembrance and solidarity. Baby Loss Awareness, pink and blue ribbons will be on display across the north London area, including at Priory Park (behind the basketball courts), Priory Park Café and St Andrew’s Church (Alexandra Park Road, N10 2DD) throughout BLAW.

This year, Hilary is raising awareness and money for Abigail’s Footsteps, with the funds raised going directly to in-person counselling. An award-winning baby loss counselling service, Abigail’s Footsteps is expanding with the launch of a new face-to-face location in London. Supporting four hospitals in the capital, this important development will provide bereaved families with compassionate and timely access to specialist counselling at one of the most devastating times in their lives.

By bringing the service close to grieving parents and siblings, as well as the healthcare professionals supporting them, the charity is:

·         Ensuring no family feels alone

·         Helping to reduce barriers to care

·         Strengthening the emotional support available following the loss of a baby
