Ares Games reveals a wave of new games coming in 2027
Ares Games showcased at Spiel Essen 2026 several new games that are to be released in the first half of 2027.
In addition to the already announced Quartermaster General: West Front, Mega Empires: The Far East (North and South), and Detectives vs Criminals, Ares has six more games in the pipeline, three of them have been developed by Pendragon Games—The Eternaut, Last Aurora - Frostlands and Last Aurora - Firelands—and three have been licensed from different partners: Leda, developed by Sorry We Are French; Quietbell, developed by True Story Games; and Yonder, developed by Sinister Fish Games.
The Eternaut is a story-driven co-operative survival board game set in Buenos Aires that uses simple game mechanisms to create an intense survival experience with strong narrative elements. Designed by Mauro Chiabotto, the game is inspired by Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López’s landmark graphic novel, recently adapted by Netflix as a TV series. In The Eternaut, one to five players must build a team, gather items, fight enemies, resolve objectives, and decide how to proceed with their unique story in a post-apocalyptic setting.
The new edition of Last Aurora, Frostlands revisits the icy wastelands of the original game with fresh twists and challenges that enhance the survival experience. The northern lands remain frozen under a blanket of nuclear winter, and players must once again manage their crew, gather resources, and race to board the last icebreaker ship, the Aurora, before it departs forever. This time, the stakes are higher than ever.
Releasing at the same time is a second standalone Last Aurora game, Firelands, shifting the setting to the opposite extreme: a scorching desert region where dangers are as relentless as the blazing sun. At the heart of this wasteland lies the Citadel, a massive, fortified city. The atmospheric processor within the Citadel demands immense energy to operate, but various survivor factions and marauding raiders frequently sabotage the massive power cables running through the desert, disrupting the flow of electricity.
With the threat of a catastrophic blackout, players must guide their group of survivors to the Citadel before the processor fails and an enormous electrostatic storm engulfs the land. Leda is an asymmetric card game for two players, designed by Pierrick Libralesso, Renaud Libralesso, and Yoel Sayada, and it’s releasing in English through Ares Games in Q2. In the forgotten realm of Leda, the great clans have awakened: cats, pandas, sharks, scorpions, and many more. Each animal clan has developed its own civilization, language, and ambitions. Through a strange energy grid pulsing in rhythm with the world, they build, evolve, clash—and seek to impose their vision of the future. Each player controls an animal Clan with its own rules, objectives, and playstyle.
The game includes four clans, and the line-up includes expansions for more animals, starting with the Snake Clan. The fifth new game to be released by Ares in spring of 2027 is Quietbell, an adventure detective game for one or more players, inspired by the works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft. It’s an engaging interactive story in which the outcome depends entirely on the players and their choices, as they piece together a larger picture and unravel the tangled fates and events that took place in the mysterious town of Quietbell.
Designed by Sergey Minevich, Quietbell features a "nonlinear communication" mechanic, allowing the player to interact with various in-game characters on different topics at their discretion. It also features a "strokes" mechanic that allows the player to create their own unique painting using transparent plastic cards. Last but not least, Ares will publish the English edition of Yonder, a fantasy worker placement game designed by Haakon Gaarder (Villagers, Streets, and Moon). In Yonder, the ancients have granted you the charter you need to find a settlement on the distant shore.
It is up to you to journey there, and turn the boatload of workers, resources, and food that will accompany you on your voyage into a sprawling settlement, and a thriving community. One to four players dispatch goblins, ogres, dwarves, elves, and skeletons to gather food, build settlements, and meet the demands of wealthy envoys.
