Birmingham-based medtech company Eyoto has appointed a new interim CEO as the company builds on its success as a pioneer in the teleoptometry sector.

Tony Veverka has stepped up after serving as a board advisor for Eyoto since 2025 and brings a wealth of experience in the medtech and healthcare sectors. He has held senior leadership roles across both the UK and US, starting his career at Bupa before going on to lead laser eye surgery specialist, Ultralase Eye Clinics, as CEO during its rapid growth in the early 2000s.

Alongside his role at Eyoto, Tony also serves as chair at BioID Health, a company specialising in personalised bioidentical hormone therapy. Founded as a spin-out from Aston University's School of Optometry in 2013 - and still based in Aston - Eyoto has grown into a leader in optical innovation.

The company’s flagship device, Aetheia, is the world’s only automated and fully remote 4K slit lamp that uses AI-enabled automation to allow non-clinically trained staff to record any exam procedure required for asynchronous clinical review or offer full remote control allowing clinicians to deliver expert eyecare from anywhere in the world. Designed to provide consistent, high-quality assessments across multiple sites and in various care settings, Aetheia helps providers expand access to eyecare, improve workflow efficiency and enhance patient experience through more scalable and sustainable service models.

It reduces training requirements and reliance on locum staff, while freeing clinicians to focus on diagnosis and treatment, rather than image acquisition. Eyoto CEO, Tony Veverka, said: “Eyoto is transforming the way eye care is delivered and it’s fantastic to be leading the company during this exciting stage in its journey as we scale the business ever further.

“Our ambition is to expand access to high-quality eye examinations globally, and we’ve already been making waves in both the UK and US markets.” Eyoto is a UK-based medtech company developing advanced ophthalmic imaging and digital diagnostic technologies that help modernise how eye care is delivered.

Its flagship platform, Aetheia, is an automated 4K digital slit lamp that combines AI-enabled automation with local and fully remote control, supporting assisted clinical examinations through Eyoto’s proprietary Auto-Optometry™ capability. Designed to support consistent, high-quality assessments across multiple sites, Aetheia helps providers expand access to care, improve workflow efficiency, and enhance patient experience through more scalable and sustainable service models.
