Birmingham 2022 has announced the pools for the Rugby Sevens competition which will be held from 29 July to 31 July at Coventry Stadium.

Gold Coast 2018 gold medallists, New Zealand have been drawn in pool A of the men’s competition with host nation and bronze medallists from your four years ago, England, also drawn in the same pool.

An amazing array of events and exhibitions celebrating film, art, music, sport and dance is on offer in the city this summer as part of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The series of creative events, taking place in the city from now until early September, celebrates Wolverhampton, the wider region and the city’s Commonwealth connections.

An inspirational University of Wolverhampton academic has been chosen as one of the Batonbearers for the forthcoming Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022. 

Dr Martin Khechara, an Associate Professor for Engagement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) in the University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, will be carrying the baton on part of its journey through the town of Uttoxeter when it reaches the West Midlands on the final leg of its journey to the host City.

Birmingham Bears have confirmed arrangements for a home Vitality Blast quarter-final, should they finish in the top two of the North Group.

Subject to qualification, the Bears will host a home quarter-final at Edgbaston Stadium on Thursday 7 July with a 6.30pm start.

When it is paraded through Gravesend next Friday, the first athlete with Romany heritage to compete at the Paralympic Games, an Olympic heavyweight boxer and the chairman of the North Kent Caribbean Network will be some of those carrying the baton.

Warwickshire County Cricket Club has announced the signing of exciting all-rounder Ed Barnard who will join the Club from Worcestershire on a three-year contract. The 26-year-old - who has made 235 professional appearances, scoring 4,756 runs and taking 367 wickets will join the Bears at the end of the 2022 domestic season.

UK Athletics has confirmed Stephen Maguire has been appointed to the role of Technical Director and will be returning to the organisation from September.

The appointment will see Maguire assume leadership responsibility for oversight of the World Class Performance programme and be responsible for ensuring the new direction including increasing levels of support and engagement with athletes as UKA moves towards Paris and Los Angeles in 2024 and 2028 respectively.

A team of 64 has been selected to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland for the World Athletics Championships Oregon 2022 [15-24 July].
