World Athletics Championships London 2017 gold medallist Danny Talbot has announced his retirement from athletics today.

The sprinter who also won two European Bronze medals over his preferred 200m distance in 2012 and 2016 as well as European Under 23 Silver and Gold in 2013, has chosen to hang up his spikes having fought his way back from injury that has prevented him from competing in recent years. Virat Kohli has been removed as India's one-day international captain because selectors did not want two white-ball skippers, says Indian cricket board (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly.

Kohli, 33, has now been replaced by Twenty20 captain Rohit Sharma. Rohit took over as T20 skipper last month after Kohli stepped down following the World Cup.

A £1.6million package of improvements to key walking routes ahead of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games has been confirmed by the council.

The Women's Tennis Association has announced the immediate suspension of all tournaments in China amid concern for Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai.

Peng, 35, disappeared from public view for three weeks after accusing a top Chinese official of sexual assault. WTA chief Steve Simon said that he had serious doubts that Peng was free, safe and not subject to intimidation.
