Changes to the Highway Code are due to come into force on January 29 2022, pending approval from Parliament, which will give greater focus to the safety of vulnerable road users including pedestrians and cyclists. However, research from Venson Automotive Solutions reveals that not all motorists support the proposed changes, believing they could create more dangerous situations on UK roads, as opposed to reducing them.

Ford Fiestas and Range Rovers dominate the Top 10 list of most stolen cars in 2021, and the Mitsubishi Outlander is the most stolen plug-in, according to DVLA data* analysed by car leasing comparison website LeaseLoco.

Up to 30th November 2021, 43,603 stolen cars have been reported by the police to the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency).

Swedish technology and design startup STILRIDE has raised £2.5m to produce sustainable electric motorcycles and scooters using a groundbreaking process dubbed ‘industrial origami’. The trailblazing manufacturing technique involves robots which are able to fold single sheets of recyclable steel into intricate, lightweight and durable new structures - significantly reducing the environmental impact of production.

A freedom of information request (FoI) by leading electrical industry trade body ECA revealed that almost two thirds (66 per cent) of local authorities do not have any plans to roll out electric vehicle charge points (EVCPs). With government plans to end the sale of petrol and diesel cars by 2035, the lack of charging infrastructure could prove a significant setback.

Swift is well known as the West Midlands own travel card for paying for buses, trams and trains – but is now available to pay for parking too. The dedicated Swift parking app can be used at 35 car parks across the region including 29 council owned facilities in Dudley.

Like other private operators’ parking apps, Swift allows motorists to use their smartphone as a convenient alternative to paying by card or cash.

Op Tutelage – a national policing initiative where police forces issue advisory letters to drivers that appear to have no motor insurance - has encouraged over 150,000 motorists to drive insured. The initiative which is led by the NPCC’s National Roads Policing Operations, Intelligence and Investigation (NRPOII) and supported by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB), was introduced in January 2020 to help reduce uninsured driving levels across the UK.
