One of the region’s most senior business leaders is urging city companies to take part in this year’s Great Birmingham 10k Business Challenge after the event’s organisers revealed the 2016 competition will be the biggest ever. More than 300 runners representing over 30 companies have now signed up to take part in the challenge, which pits companies against each other for fastest-time trophies on Sunday, May 1.
Sixteen staff members from the Birmingham office of legal firm Pinsent Masons are the latest to sign up for the 10k on Bank Holiday Weekend to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia. Pinsent Masons have entered two teams into the Business Challenge and are urging other members of the Birmingham business community to sign up.
Pinsent Masons’ fundraising efforts will go towards the whole company’s £40,000 target for Cure Leukaemia this year as they endeavor to raise enough to fund a specialist research nurse for 12 months.
Head of office, Greg Lowson, will be running alongside 15 other colleagues and is looking forward to the challenge.
“I’m delighted we have put together a strong team for the Great Birmingham 10k,” he said.
“We are determined to reach our £40,000 fundraising target for Cure Leukaemia this year and this will be one of the key events that helps us achieve that goal.”
Greg, who is also a Cure Leukaemia Trustee and President of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, added: “The Business Challenge gives an additional element of fun and competition to the day itself and I would like to encourage other businesses around the city to get involved in the challenge.
“The event will be great fun but I’m sure our runners will be extra determined to ensure Pinsent Masons come out on top of the Business Challenge!”
More than 7,000 people are expected to take part in this year’s Great Birmingham 10k, which will be started by city music legends UB40. This year’s run begins an hour later than last year to give participants plenty of time to travel into the city centre.
Cure Leukaemia offer a unique package for the Great Birmingham 10K and Great Birmingham Run in October. Registration for the events are allocated by the charity for FREE provided each runner commits to raising the minimum fundraising targets in return for free entry.
