Amalgam Collection, makers of the world’s finest car models, has today unveiled 1:8 and 1:18 scale models of the Scuderia Ferrari 499P, celebrating the racing machines that triumphed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on the 10th and 11th June 2023.

The models capture the victorious #51 car piloted by James Calado, Antonio Giovinazzi and Alessandro Pier Guidi, and the #50 car that claimed Hyperpole in the hands of Miguel Molina, Antonio Fuoco and Nicklas Nielsen. The perfectly replicated, super detailed, limited edition 1:8 scale models, have been created for Scuderia Ferrari and their partners, but are also available to Ferraristi.

The winning #51 car has also been developed by Amalgam as a ‘kerbside’ model at the smaller 1:18 scale. Each 1:8 scale is the result of over 4000 hours of skilled design and development, and 400 hours of work per individual model.

The basis of this development is original CAD data for the 499P shared with Amalgam by the engineers at Gestione Sportiva, but there remained much for the team at Amalgam to achieve. Exercising all their outstanding skill and artistry, the team set about reworking the CAD before 3D printing and hand working hundreds of patterns.

Moulds were made, and every part was cast in prototyping resin, then fettled and fitted, painted and assembled into these impressive artworks. Every visible detail of the car has been captured and perfectly replicated.

The limited edition model is available adorned with the livery of the victorious #51 car or its #50 sister car, and are strictly limited to just 199 pieces. Every 1:8 model features openable doors and a removable engine cover, allowing close examination of the car’s tight and purposeful racing interior and every minute detail of the F163 twin-turbocharged 2,992 cc V6 power unit.

The 1:18 scale project is a direct continuation of the previous intense research and development process the artisans at Amalgam have been through to create the 1:8 model, necessitating a further 800 hours of work. Working from the same CAD data, Amalgam’s engineers follow an identical process to the larger scale model, with the same intense commitment to capturing the essence of each car.

The resulting prototype model only received approval from the designers and engineers at Gestione Sportiva once they were fully satisfied with its accuracy of representation. Sandy Copeman, Founder of Amalgam Collection, commented: “We were delighted to see Ferrari triumph at Circuit de la Sarthe.

“After a 50-year absence from the top step at Le Mans, it is an incredible story that fully illustrates the passion, engineering prowess and technological capabilities in Maranello. We’re proud to be able to work with Scuderia Ferrari immortalising this incredible moment with our editions of 1:8 and 1:18 scale models.”

Amalgam’s astonishingly realistic and deeply detailed large-scale models are already widely recognised by Ferrari owners worldwide, and these editions of the 499P deepen the close cooperation between Ferrari and Amalgam that has flourished since 1998. “The passion and artistry that Ferrari bring to creating the most exciting cars in the world ignites an equal passion in the team at Amalgam to create models that deserve their place alongside the beautiful works of engineered art emerging from Maranello,” Copeman adds.

These models of the Ferrari 499P replicate the #51 car raced to victory by Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado, Antonio Giovinazzi, and the #50 car piloted to Hyperpole by Miguel Molina, Antonio Fuoco and Nicklas Nielsen in the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans. Ferrari's victory marked a return to the elite class of WEC after 50 years and also coincided with the Centenary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, commemorating 100 years since the inaugural race in 1923.

The Ferrari 499Ps started from the top two positions on the grid with Hypercar numbers 50 and 51, respectively, thanks to the times posted during the Hyperpole when Fuoco took pole. With five hours until the chequered flag of round four of the FIA WEC 2023, after 261 laps, Pier Guidi defended a lead over the number eight car.

The 499P number 51 starred overnight when Calado fought a tight battle with the only Toyota left in the race, completing a triple stint before handing the wheel to Giovinazzi. At the chequered flag, Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen finished fifth in the 499P number 50, delayed during the night by repairs that knocked the crew out of contention for the podium, despite an excellent performance that saw them climb several places back up the standings.

The #51 Hypercar triumphed after covering 342 laps on the French track. The Prancing Horse claimed its tenth overall victory at Le Mans and now comprises 39 victories, including 29 class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The Ferrari 499P is available at 1:8 and 1:18 scale, with deliveries of 1:18 commencing before the end of June and 1:8 scale this summer.
