For 150 years Barnardo’s has been transforming children’s lives helping hundreds of thousands of children to grow up happy and healthy. The UK's leading children's charity, founded by Dr. Thomas Barnardo, is offering fantastic profile-raising and fundraising opportunities for charity and corporate partnerships ahead of the anniversary. Barnardo’s. Chief Executive, Javed Khan, said; "2016 is here at last and this promises to be an exciting year for all of us at Barnardo’s.

This year, we mark the 150th anniversary of when Thomas Barnardo first set out to help vulnerable children and young people. I am so proud that we have staff, volunteers and supporters who are dedicated to making sure we can always be here for children.

I want to make my own pledge to fundraise for Barnardo's. This year, I’m going to do an abseil to raise money for our work and show my dedication to our brilliant charity.”

The charity, whose famous children include dress designer Bruce Oldfield, former footballer John Fashanu, and brother, the late Justin and author Leslie Thomas, will be one of 600 organisations to join a street party to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday on Sunday 12 June.

Khan, said; "Barnardo’s is honoured to have The Queen as our Patron and a street party on The Mall is a great way to bring together and acknowledge the diverse range of charities that she supports.

I know all our staff, volunteers and the many children and young people we work with will be excited to find out how they can take part in what promises to be a historic weekend of celebration.”

The charity began its "boarding out" or fostering scheme in 1889 but only became a registered adoption society in 1947.

In 1966 the charity changed its name from Dr Barnardo's Homes to Dr Barnardo's.
