So, it was Luke Humphries who defeated teenage sensation, Luke Littler, in a super-charged final at Alexandra Palace, in London, to win his first PDC World Championship title.
In the ‘Battle of the Luke’, it was pre-event favourite, Humphries, who overcame the 16-year-old ‘Boy Wonder’ Littler, who was aiming to become darts' youngest ever world champion after a remarkable run to the final. And with that, he became World No.1, and picked up £500,000 in becoming the world champion.
It means that following his 7-4 victory, 28-year-old Humphries has now won four of the past five major televised tournaments in the PDC (Professional Darts Corporation). For Littler, his progress on his World Championship debut has captured the imagination of the public on his journey throughout the tournament.
For Luke Humphries (left in pic), he was able to hold his nerve, before landing a shot at double eight to clinch the biggest win of his career as he sank to his knees to then take in what he just achieved. For the young Luke Littler - who had only played four senior matches at PDC premier events prior to his World Championship debut – his performances at this year's World Championship have seen him average 100 or more in three of his five matches, making him one of only two players to do so at the tournament.
And, for him, there’ll be no shortage of sumptuous doner kebabs any time soon for the very-near-in-the-future World Champion!
