UK Athletics has announced the British team selected for the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Serbia on the 18-20 March.

Several athletes confirmed their places in the squad at the UK Athletics Indoor Championships at the Utilita Arena Birmingham last weekend including 2018 world indoor champion Andrew Pozzi [60m hurdles], in-form Elliot Giles [800m], and 2016 world indoor medallist Lorraine Ugen [long jump].

 

They will be joined by Olympic silver medallist Keely Hodgkinson who will double up in the 800m and 4x400m relay in the Serbian capital. UK 400m champion Jessie Knight and bronze medallist Ama Pipi also join the women’s 4x400m squad. Two European indoor record breakers this season, Ed Faulds and Marc, are also included in the team.

Double European U20 champion and Futures Programme athlete, Faulds – one of eight athletes making their senior debuts at the Championships - lowered the continental U20 record at the Muller Indoor Grand Prix Birmingham last month with a time of 46.16. Meanwhile, Scott broke the European indoor 5000m record earlier this year, and after winning at the UK Championships over the 3000m at the weekend, he’ll run over the shorter distance indoors alongside Jamaine Coleman.

Invitations for the combined events will be issued by World Athletics later this week. Any further invitations from World Athletics will be issued after 9 March. These will be accepted by UK Athletics provided the invited athlete(s) meet the eligibility criteria and to the satisfaction of the Panel, demonstrate current form and fitness in 2022 which suggests that they are capable of being competitive in Belgrade.

Olympic Head Coach, Christian Malcolm, said: “We are pleased to have selected 33 athletes, so far, to represent the country at the World Athletics Indoor Championships. Those called-up have earned their vest and I know they’ll all represent their country with pride in Belgrade next month.

“We have a number of athletes who have really stepped up during this indoor season, setting a number of PBs and SBs, so it’ll be exciting to see how they translate that into the Championship environment. It’s also great to see a number of athletes achieving their first senior vest too, so congratulations to the eight athletes who are gaining theirs for the first time.”
