Hundreds of children celebrated Britain’s rich cultural diversity when they took part in a spectacular festival at Sutton Coldfield’s outstanding Arthur Terry School. The sixth ‘Unity in Diversity’ multicultural festival - brought together hundreds of children from Arthur Terry and its partner primary schools, to celebrate the best of both Britain’s and Birmingham’s eclectic communities. The popular event featured more than 30 stalls, each representing a different community group. Neighbouring restaurants cooked up fresh Balti cuisine; music included Caribbean steel pans, Scottish bagpipes and Bhangra drumming; and there was even a festive visit from none other than Father Christmas.
Event organiser, Alex Zarifeh, citizenship teacher at the Arthur Terry School, said: “We’re thrilled by the success of our sixth ‘Unity in Diversity’ festival. This vibrant event has really developed over the years and there is always a wonderful atmosphere.
“This festival is all about coming together to share and experience our richly diverse communities and to celebrate those differences. We’re proud that this event has been an important part of our multicultural landscape for a number of years – but it’s even more relevant now than it ever was. This was a chance for young people to learn from each other, to have lots of fun and to try something new. We were delighted to welcome the children and our community partners into school.”
