You may have blinked and missed it but St. Eustatius is a petit destination preserved from mass tourism. St. Eustatius, known to many as ‘Statia’, is an unpretentious and un-crowded destination, offering plenty of activities in its unique Caribbean setting.

With beautiful beaches all around, a vibrant calendar of activities across all seasons, any time you opt to visit is the right time.

Easter Lounging

If you like the beach and like the warm Caribbean Sea, Statia is the place to be during the April 5 and 6 Easter Holidays. Stick with custom and traverse the Lower Town area or what locals refer to as “The Bay stretch” or explore the unbeaten paths of this volcanic island. Be a spectator or join in on a friendly beach volleyball competition and water sports.  Better yet, explore the pulse of our people during the Easter Monday’s annual jouvert morning jump-up followed by a delicious full-your-tummy breakfast sale.

Karaoke with a View

If you are wild about karaoke, the Ocean View Terrace is the place to be, every Friday night from 9 p.m. until you say when.  If you are out on the town you are sure to come across several other establishments offering the chance for you to carry your own key!

Emancipation Day

Visit Statia during the season of emancipation and you are sure to be swept up by the rhythms of our communities.  Throughout Emancipation day, usually celebrated on July 1, inhabitants, as well as visitors come together to commemorate the abolition of slavery. Ceremonies are formed and parades can be seen through the streets as ethnic groups join forces and food fairs take over Wilhelmina Park.

By the island’s guitar shape one can only imagine how the festive season of Carnival is celebrated. For two electrifying weeks in the month of July, the energy across the entire island is fully charged. The line-up features a wide array of gifted artists headlining the live shows and festivities to bring out the ‘carnivalist’ in you.

The public stage is lit up every evening from 6p.m., booths are lined up along the street and wasps from delicious local dishes such as conks and dumpling colour the air. Large crowds are entertained by local and international performances during free concerts featuring superstars such as Destra Garcia, Alison Hinds, Demarco, Onion and Morgan Heritage.

Red and White Parade

The Red and White Parade hosted by the islands culture department is a spectacle that takes over the island around the second week of December each year. Islanders and visitors dress up in festive colours to witness cultural performances paying fitting tribute to the theme.
